IHM Seminar

Alpha Marine Consulting Turkey will be holding the first Seminar of 2019-2020 Training Season on the subject of Development of Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM).

The development and maintenance of the IHM aims at providing the crew as well as the Owners and Operators of the vessel with information on the nature, location and approximate quantity of hazardous materials found onboard. Furthermore, the IHM aims at providing the necessary documentation to enable ship recyclers to plan decontamination activities in order to assure the safe and environmentally sound decommissioning of hazardous materials for final disposal and recycling.

 

The IΗΜ will be developed in accordance with the latest IMO Guidelines adopted on 15 May 2015 by Resolution MEPC.269(68) and Regulation (EU) No. 1257/2013 (hereinafter: “EU SRR”).

 

According to EU SRR:

 

- New EU-flagged ships (building contract placed on or after 31/12/2018) will need to have onboard an IHM at delivery.

- Existing EU-flagged ships will need to have onboard an IHM not later than 31/12/2020.

- All EU-flagged ships heading for recycling should carry an IHM.

- Existing non-EU-flagged ships calling at an EU Port after 31/12/2020 should carry onboard an IHM.

- New non-EU-flagged ships (building contract placed on or after 31.12.2018) calling at an EU Port after 30/06/2021 should carry onboard an IHM.

 

The course to provide knowledge about the regulatory framework behind the IHM. Assist participants to reach compliance. Analyse the preparation of “Visual Sampling Check Plan”. Inform about the potential hazards and the proper and safe sampling.
